Love the cameos by real stars and their remakes of popular songs. . Romantic sparks and crazy mishaps happen when the Chipmunks and Chipettes square off. As adorable and talented as they may be, though, these bouncy little critters aren't quite domesticated just yet; they still have a wild streak in them a mile wide, and it isn't long before Dave's life, home, and career are in utter chaos. His boss sends him to roust a prostitute living in a rural house.
It ought to please young children and their parents. Overall, there is nothing brilliant about this film, but it's still fun. Jason Lee is badly miscast as the Chipmunks' long-suffering songwriter and adopted father, David Seville. They have three days to get to him and stop the proposal, saving themselves not only from losing Dave but possibly from gaining a terrible stepbrother. Dave, the most famous human character in the franchise is probably in the film for about 5 minutes total, however the human characters we're left with are good performers with decent subplots.
I never saw the first one, but within the context of it being a kids' movie, it was actually quite well made. On the downside, I think there are some choices that hurt the quality. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to take their small kids out to a movie. We don't need some sort of love story in every single film in my opinion. I enjoyed it so much! The world famous singing pre-teen chipmunk trio return to contend with the pressures of school, celebrity, and a rival female music group known as The Chipettes. I actually laughed at the jokes, and I'm 33 and educated.
Things soon start to look up, however, when Dave discovers three singing chipmunks hiding out in the branches of a Christmas tree in Jett Records' world headquarters. This is explored through Alvin and his ego problem, and the consequences it has on his friends and family. Sure, it's not the most intellectual film for an adult audience, but it serves its purpose and achieves its goals, despite being the result of commercialism. The moral lesson to be taught is about learning to be selfless and considerate of others. I did not care for the cliché use of a fart joke, but I forgive it because there was only one, and it was used in a way that's actually still funny to adults.
This movie has a bit of a weak plot. But staying mad at such lovable little creatures is next to impossible, no matter what kind of mischief they might get into. I just watched all the now four movies with the chipmunks and I liked each one of them. The song that they sing in the end is so great! Storyline: After a concert mishap lands Dave in the hospital, Alvin, Simon, and Theodore end up in the care of Dave's twenty-something cousin Toby. I grew up watching the 80's version of the chipmunks, so when I first saw the trailer to this predictable but cute live-action update, I was somewhat happy.
This franchise has unlimited potential, lovely characters and an original idea. Made by movie fans, for movie fans. Lou Ford is a mild-mannered sheriff's deputy in an Oklahoma oil town in the late 1940s. Other characters have their own arcs as well, and they read clear and convincingly. The plot was coherent and the moral issues were clear. The characters stay true to themselves, much to anyone who is a fan of the original cartoon characters, and the dynamic of character triads works well for moral storytelling. She slaps him; he hits her, then, after daily sex for the next few weeks, he decides it's love.

It was good to hear the Chipmunks sing their classic Christmas song, there were plenty of funny but not hilarious moments, and the Chipmunks themselves were well-animated and undeniably adorable particularly Theodore. If I were a young kid, I'd love this movie a lot, but I'm way past that and am often quite critical of children's genre films these days. . . . .
