I have successfully booted to older pic's than this one. The issue can be hardware or software. I don't know your technical capabilities, so I cannot say whether this would be something you'd wish to tackle yourself. Abmario, You were right on every count. I don't know if she was trying to shut it down wrong or if she was letting the plug get loose and the battery was running down.
Woke up and it was dead. Most likely something such as the video card has failed but the above is relatively easy to do and costs nothing - you might be lucky. My computer would not turn on right after that. Problem occurs approximately once a month and gets solved. After an hour or so of charging press the power button.
This morning, when I tried to turn it on, it wouldn't turn on. In some situations this can be caused by an external device or an electrical problem. If that doesnt work the only way to do it is to boot into windows and run the eRecovery program. It is the screen before you see the windows boot screen. If you're using the on-board video try adding a video card--even a cheapy--just to see if it boots past the logo. There might be a key to switch to the diagnostic posting screen instead of just showing the logo. I've used F8 in the past to get to start in Safe Mode. At this point, I don't want to have to lose the files on my laptop but I will make that sacrifice if I have to. I noticed that that the laptop feels pretty cold - so I think it's the battery. Sitting on your bed while powered up? Finally, I unplugged the laptop, removed the battery, put it back in, plugged the laptop in and turnned it on again and the charging light light up purple. Not hearing anything is not a good sign.

Only you can determine whether that cost is worth it.
